It would be, lets be honest, naïve to think City haven’t given Raheem Sterling a little nudge in order to get himself a Liverpool exit but have we instigated the latest twist in this saga?

Sterling long ago, by his own free will, made it clear he wanted to leave Liverpool. That is on him, and those representing him.

We’ve reportedly had a couple of bids turned down for the England man with fresh reports suggesting he’s told Liverpool he doesn’t want to go on tour with the club during pre-season, some of these have gone as far as saying he’s threatening a strike!

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, in fairness a guy I’ve grown to like from his work on Sky, has made claims today that Sterling is at risk of ‘carving out a bad reputation’ for himself, which he could well do, but has also gone as far as saying he feels we’ve probably pushed the 20-year-old to make this move, as many clubs would, as we look to get this deal done. But this would actually lead to Liverpool being all the more determined to hold out for the £50m they’ve asked for?

I’d agree with Carragher that Sterling – although like I’ve said many of his actions do appear to be those made by himself, or an agent not representing him in the best way – isn’t exactly doing much to enhance his reputation!

Did we instigate his latest moves? As I begin with I’m sure we’ve nudged him along the way but he’s his own man and does what he wants.

A conclusion to this ongoing drama needs to come sooner or later though and if a deal isn’t done soon I could see us again getting frustrated, as we appear to have with Paul Pogba, and move on and that could leave the winger left in quite an awkward position at Anfield….that being said his situation is probably beyond repair now and he’ll get a move somewhere.
