Any transfer activity that City do conduct in January, which will be limited, would be business that brought us players for the here and now you would have thought, wouldn’t you?

Reports in the Mail though say that not only are we interested in signing Joaquin Correa in January we’re actually ‘winning the race’ to sign the Argentine attacking midfielder ahead of Chelsea, and European rivals such as PSG and Monaco….

The Mail said: ‘Manchester City are understood to have held talks with Estudiantes over a possible £8million deal for Argentina prospect Joaquin Correa.

‘Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco have all checked on the 20-year-old attacking midfielder.

‘Estudiantes say the outline of the transfer would see Correa move to Sampdoria on an initial loan.’

Correa, if he’s as good as he’s thought to be, would make a good signing and seem to be ‘a snip’ at £8m but as much as you make signings with the future in mind as well as the present I’m not so sure that Manuel Pellegrini is going to be signing players that aren’t able to make an immediate impact on the first-team squad is he?

Maybe Correa would be a worthwhile ‘exception to that rule,’ that’s assuming there’s any truth to what has been claimed anyway….
