Manchester City thrashed Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Molineux and Joao Cancelo put in a great performance.
The 28-year-old was given the nod at left-back over Sergio Gomez and Nathan Ake and vindicated Pep Guardiola’s decision with a solid showing at both ends of the pitch.

No player made more tackles than Cancelo (5), no player whipped in more accurate crosses (2) and no player had more successful dribbles (4). Only two players had more interceptions (2) and made more passes (74), so the Portuguese international can be proud of his efforts.
Not everyone will be pleased, however. Gomez will struggle for playing time while Cancelo performs well in his position, so he might be wondering when significant opportunities will come his way. The 22-year-old has made four appearances for City this season but only has one start to his name.
Kyle Walker is City’s first-choice right-back and can be replaced by Cancelo if injury struck, but the 28-year-old has stayed on the left while Walker has been out, so it doesn’t appear Guardiola has a lot of faith in Gomez.
