For City fans across Planet Blue who sometimes wonder why The Blues kits aren’t on sale in big international stores alongside elite club shirts, that’s about to change…

In a further Etihad Stadium coffers swelling move that will leave Michel Platini seething and the Glazer empire groaning, Nike will be making City’s kits from the 2013-2014 season onwards.

There’s a degree of sadness around town on this one because of umbro’s Mancunian roots and some of the belting shirts they’ve knocked out for City of late, but the globalisation juggernaut of liddle ciddy is gathering terrific pace and the shrewd club hierarchy are intent upon further strengthening the club both financially and internationally.

Umbro signed a 10 year kit deal with The Citizens in 2009 but a contractual move to Nike and the billions of dollars that encapsulate Nike Inc is a formality because Umbro is a subsidiary of the American giants.

Acting MCFC CEO John MacBeath said:

‘…Nike’s deserved reputation as the leading global sports brand, its unparalleled R&D capacity, leading global retail distribution networks and award winning marketing capabilities mean that this is a very important step forward in the evolution of Manchester City.’
