Manchester City has today (01/07/10) released standby goalkeeper Stuart Taylor. The cull, as expected commences.

The official MCFC website published the following statement:

‘Manchester City can confirm that Stuart Taylor has not had his contract renewed and has left the club.’

‘The goalkeeper arrived at City last summer and understudied Shay Given for most of the season, making one first team appearance against Scunthorpe United in the FA Cup last January.’

‘Unluckily for Stuart, a knee injury towards the end of the season prevented him from replacing Shay Given in the side after the Irishman dislocated a shoulder against Arsenal.’

‘We thank Stuart for his services, and wish him the very best of luck for the future.’

The 29-year-old shot-stopper is expected to drop down the leagues having failed to impress at City, Arsenal and Aston Villa and no doubt his former loan clubs, Bristol Rovers, Crystal Palace, Peterborough, Leicester and Cardiff City will have first dibs at bringing in the former England U21 keeper on a free.

The cull commences…

Martin Petrov is another victim of the anticipated cull having been released in June. I wonder who will be next.
