As the transfer window is almost underway Manchester City are constantly being linked with a number of new forwards, but who do you think we’ll keep from our current strike force to play alongside our potential new arrivals in a ‘Striker Shuffle’ system.
Jo
1 – First to Jô, the forgotten man in City terms. This time last year he signed with huge anticipation in his £19m move from CSKA Moscow, only to get us all dreaming for the next big thing. But sadly and surprisingly it was not to be. He has failed to nail down a spot after only 14 City starting appearances. Oh and I forgot to say, his goal ratio is just over one in every four. I’ve seen worse, but a player valued at £19m, well…
During his initial stay he looked lazy and uninterested so the club quite rightly shipped him out on loan to Everton, in an effort to sharpen him up, although to his credit he scored five in 11 starts. By all accounts he was unpopular with the Everton fans – don’t know why?
He wants to stay on Merseyside but Everton are reluctant to buy him on a permanent basis simply because the Toffee’s can’t afford him. In the last few days Fulham has shown an interest, which in theory could see the Brazilian leave on another loan deal.
Verdict: Loan
Felipe Caicedo
2 – Next is Felipe Caicedo who, if we believe any of the tabloid rumours has turned down a bid from Sporting Lisbon. But, we do forget sometimes that Caicedo is only 20. He has bags of potential and his scoring record reflects that with a return of eight goals this season. However, one of his weaknesses is that he can often look uninterested and fails to put himself about enough for such a big lad.
Verdict: Remain at Eastlands.
Daniel Sturridge
3 – Where do I start with ‘silly boy’ Daniel Sturridge? I have written several articles on the lad, and even I feel as though I’m beginning to run out of descriptive words for such a promising player. He is extremely stupid to even think about demanding £75,000 a week, but I guess that’s up to him.
Verdict: Off to either Chelsea or West Ham.
Ched Evans
4 – Surprisingly, Man City turned down a £1.5m bid for the Welshman from believe it or not, Sheffield United. This surprised me somewhat as I thought fellow countryman Mark Hughes would accept any realistic offers.
Yes, he does work hard, and yes he is your natural lump it up to him forward, but he just doesn’t possess the quality and skill we are looking for. Sad really but that’s football.
Verdict: I think he’ll stay and become a regular reserve.
Valeri Bojinov
5 – In my opinion the injury ridden striker has the drive and the ability to succeed. I really do hope we keep hold of him as he has an awful lot to offer.
Verdict: More than likely he’ll be Italy bound before the end of the transfer window.
