MCFC did not hang around last summer in reinforcing the club’s senior squad. All major signings were in place for the summer tours. The Blues are this year aiming for a repeat offensive…

Getting summer transfer business done and dusted early in the window is becoming a demanding skill that City’s Director of Football Txiki Begiristain is gradually developing into an art form based upon ongoing evidence. There is no doubt that the advance planning and speedy purchases of Álvaro Negredo, Jesús Navas, Stevan Jovetić and Fernandinho, two of whom were registered in June helped Manuel Pellegrini fuse a squad ready to hit the ground running in August resulting in City still competing on four campaign fronts seven months later.

Porto duo, the athletic central defender Eliaquim Mangala and defensive midfielder Fernando remain firmly on Begiristain’s radar with City’s canny director having made repeat visits to Portugal in recent months.

Meanwhile, Victor Blanco, president of Argentinian side Racing Club, has gone public in claming The Blues have already agreed terms to sign his exciting 20-year-old Bruno Zuculini in a £1.5m coup:

‘…we have several highly-coveted gems, such as Luciano Vietto, Rodrigo De Paul and Bruno Zuculini, who has already signed an agreement to leave in June to join Manchester City.’

Zuculini is believed in Argentina to be the perfect midfielder at something of a bargain price. Having looked at Zuculini’s profile he seems as though we could be on to a winner if we landed him. Maybe you have heard of him may be you haven’t but let’s take a look at him.

A bonus is he does not require a work permit as he holds an Italian passport, and would be able to go straight into the first team on City’s far reaching summer tours.

No damage would be done to the existing formidable Toure-Fernandinho partnership but the young Zuculini could be available as cover as and when required alongside Javi Garcia. Sadly, Jack Rodwell may see his nose further pushed out following repeated hamstring injuries. It is a real shame that Rodders has been unable to establish himself at City.

As things stand, at the moment Zuculini is one of the finest young up and coming stars in South America. He seems to have a knack of finding the net as well which fits in with City right now as renowned ‘free scorers.’ Zuculini’s ability to score goals would appear tailor-made for our boys.

So what an exciting number of prospects we already have lined up this summer. At the end of the day, central defense and midfield are the bedrock from where matches are won. Clearly The Blues are intent upon strengthening these areas ready for another title charge next season, regardless of what happens in the coming four weeks.
