City target signs for Charlton

Fast transfer wheeler-dealing has seen Tottenham’s Andy Reid unexpectedly signing for Charlton Athletic this evening for a fee in the region of £3m, despite rumours that City were interested in his services.

Personally, I think that this is very fortunate as despite a lot of hype in his early career, Reid has failed to establish himself at Spurs and has been plagued by injuries. For that sort of money he’s a risky signing so we should be grateful to Charlton for snatching him quickly before we signed him.

The bad news however is that City are still desperately short of a fit, pacy winger that can consistently deliver quality crosses.

Attention may now turn towards Brett Emerton, although Blackburn seem pretty confident that they will be able to persuade him to stay at Ewood Park.

With no other obvious available wingers from the Premiership or even the Championship for that matter, Pearce may be forced to scour the continent for a suitable player; he may well be now regretting letting Albert Riera go at the end of the last season after a short, but highly impressive loan spell. Time is not on his side though as the transfer window begins to draw to a close. Lets hope something happens soon.
