A brilliantly professional performance at Newcastle saw City silence the away day win obsessed sports hacks whose frustration continues as City remain a top four side…

In Iceman style, I will say that City outclassed Newcastle for the second time this season tonight and in doing so, threw down the gauntlet to our realistically UEFA Cup rivals Everton, Villa, Pompey and Blackburn. Er, and Liverpool? Who would have thought this last summer!!??

Sure, the Champions League places that we have troubled all season remain a dreamland to continue a dalliance with, but we all must keep our feet on the ground after this brilliant start to 2008.

Just as the statistics relentlessly piled up against Stuart Pearce, they are doing so in the other direction for the superbly astute Sven-Goran Eriksson. That’s only two Premier League defeats in sixteen games and only four defeats all season. Stunning.

The squad Svennis is building are coming together steadily and we are now in a position to top up our half full glass of Blue magic with a couple of campaign boosting signings.

What a confidence building victory to take to West Ham United in the FA Cup.

Well played, Blues!

Oh yes, and Allardyce for England.
