The race for 4th fixture list is threatening to burn white hot following the announcement that City will now welcome ‘Arry’s swaggering Laandaarnars to Eastlands on 5th May!

In fact, City will be playing both Villa and Spurs at The City of Manchester Stadium inside five potentially explosive days!

Spurs and Blues fans will be knowing only too well the history of humdinging clashes that their sides have served up between them down the years and Wednesday 5th May promises to be no exception.

Lord have mercy, it’s going to be the mother of all nailbiting run in’s as the holy grail of Champions League qualification remains in touching distance for the Villains, The Lilywhites and The Citizens.

Of course, Liverpool have been there, seen it, done it but of the four contenders are in fractionally the weaker position at this stage of a rollercoaster campaign, easily the most intriguing Premier League season in years.

4th Spurs P 29, Pts 52, GD 25, GS 53
5th Liverpool P 30, Pts 51, GD 19, GS 49
6th Man City P 28, Pts 50, GD 17, GS 53
7th Aston Villa P 28 Pts 49, GD 17, GS 39

It’s almost certain to go to the wire and City fans will be drawing parallels with the 15th May 2005 when Fatty Fowler’s pathetic penalty miss at home to Middlesbrough saw City miss out on outright UEFA Cup qualification by a whisker.

Surely it’s too close to call with so many tough encounters against relegation threatened sides and teams who have been pulling off unexpected wins all season, let alone the massive clashes between three of the four contending clubs.

So who will be taking on Europe’s elite next season? Will European commitments, domestic cup fixtures, injuries or suspensions from erratic refereeing tell in the later stages? Who has on paper the easier or the more difficult run in?
