City Win Caballero Race?

It’s being reported today that Manchester City have won the race to secure the signing of Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

The Mirror are saying we’ve beaten off competition from Barcelona and Arsenal to secure the signature of the 32 year old, but apparently their source for this is The Sun.

Caballero worked under manager Manuel Pellegrini when he was gaffer of Malaga, so they know each other well.

They go on to say that it’s believed that Caballero could be worth up to £7 million which seems a strange way of approaching it.

Despite this suggestion, there’s no details in terms of a contract length, or even whether he’ll join us as a free agent or whether in fact that £7 million could be the fee, but presumably at his age, he’d be coming in as a number 2 to Joe Hart following the departure of Costel Pantilimon to Sunderland, so it would seem strange to shell out that kind of money when we have to have one eye on Financial Fair Play now.
