City, at last put together a performance that fans, the manager and the board have been crying out for.
I wouldn’t say that all’s now well at Eastlands after Saturday’s 3 – 1 victory over Fulham, but three points in the bag now are invaluable as we head into two difficult away fixtures at Anfield and Villa Park, from which we’ll do well get get a point.
City dominated the first half against Fulham and could have easily doubled their tally of three goals in the first 45 minutes.
Corradi, at last, fulfilled the potential he’d shown in previous games and score twice in quick succession to break his goal drought. City’s other striker, Samaras, by constrast looked off the pace and seems short of match fitness and confidence – hopefully that’ll come soon.
Barton added the third goal just before half time finishing a flowing end-to-end move after excellent work from Trabelsi, who with every game looks quality; let’s hope he can stay fit and survive a cold and wet Manchester winter.
Fulham, to their credit, battled back and saved a bit of pride in the second half, pulling a goal back courtesy of Collins John and a dodgy linesman who failed to spot he was offside.
When you see City perform like they did on Saturday, it really frustrates the hell out of you when you’ve endured the timid and toothless performances we’ve seen both at home and more specifically on the road this season; why can’t they play like they did on Saturday consistently and look like they want to compete and win.
All the team battled well, even my ‘mate’ Reyna, who for the first time this season looked like he wanted to be out there on the pitch in the thick of it – well done Claudio, but let’s see more of it.
The next two games against the Reds and Villa respectively would be a tough proposition for any club, so expectations need to be realistic. However, I hope Pearce picks the right team and formation to make a fight of it. if we go out to defend, we’ll get mullered, so we might as well go out and attack – you never know, we might even win an away game if we tried hard enough.
It’s great to be able to say, ‘well done lads’ for a change, now lets keep the momentum going so we can go into next month’s derby with a bit of confidence. Much as I’d hate to do Chelsea a favour, the blue half of Manchester badly needs another derby win for those oh-so-important bragging rights.
