As City fans whose expectations were raised by the sudden early swoop for Gareth Barry wait for news of more squad strengthening The Blues’ CEO Garry Cook calls for patience…

The club have clearly been pulling out all the stops this summer in a bid to bolster Mark Hughes’ options going into next season’s domestic focused campaign. Barry, Roque Santa Cruz and Stuart Taylor are already in the bag whilst iron’s remain in very big fires elsewhere across Europe.

City’s hierarchy continue to speak out only when absolutely neccessary and Garry Cook has taken the moment to call for patience via the MUEN:

‘Patience is an emotional requirement of anything that involves sport. As a football fan you have to be patient but the ambitions and expectations here are increasing – from the fans, the staff and the players. But if you don’t set those expectations, you are going nowhere.’

There is more than a hint of realism in what Cook says as City continue to operate stealthily, leaving the hacks to sieze upon what they can:

‘People have come to realise that you don’t go from 0 to 100mph in no time at all, and expect everything to fit into place. There are some people who will choose to come, and some who won’t choose to come. We don’t want to be held to ransom, and have very clear directives about what it is we want to try to get done.’

The City Chief Exec then went on to repeat the Academy focused objectives of Sheikh Mansour:

‘We are talking about players of the very highest calibre on the global football stage. You can’t have everybody, and we don’t want everybody, because we have a great Academy.

‘We are developing young players to complement those we buy.’

Yet more words of encouragement for City’s senior squad Academy graduates.

In the meantime, stretch out and wait…!
