City’s EastLands Of The Giants

MCFC were a more uncompromising outfit last season and that trend is set to continue. The increasing height across the squad has to be a big factor in this assessment…

There was no doubt that City packed more of a physical, combative punch in the Premier League last season and there are statistics out there that back that theory up.

The Citizens bagged 15 goals from corners in the last campaign, more than any other team in the English top flight blowing the long held belief around SportCity that we never score from corners clean out of the water!

The Blues also posted the fewest away losses last season and alongside Everton, recouped the most points from losing positions in the 2009-10 Premier League.

The latter two facts underline a greater resilience in a league swamped with teams who rely upon their physicality to get results as opposed to skill.

Roberto Mancini has already bolstered his squad with the sky scraping likes of Patrick Vieira, Jerome Boateng and YaYa Toure this year and should he be successful in securing the signatures of Inter Milan’s 6ft 3in striker Mario Balotelli or Lazio’s 6ft 2in left back Aleksandar Kolarov, The Blues will be set to hit the heights in more ways than one this coming season.

Bearing in mind that the club don’t actually have to offload players anymore but most probably will once Mancio has completed his incoming transfer business, and that numerous loaned stars are currently back with us, the shrewd Italian tactician can call upon 38 contracted senior squad players right now.

23 of those players are six footers with another 5 Blues measuring up at 5ft 11.

Many of City’s taller players are clearly important personnel in key areas and highly likely to feature regularly for us in the coming months.

Stoke fans who saw any of Jerome Boateng’s throw in’s in South Africa this summer will be wary of the challenge City could pose to the shouty Tony Pulis and towel juggling Rory DeCrap at the Britannia on a rainy afternoon this November!

Furthermore, the likes of creators such as Silva, SWP, Tevez, Johnson and Ireland will find themselves better protected to do their thing.

City are playing near the land of the New York Giants this weekend and Liverpool will be bracing themselves to be the first Premier League side to visit The Eastlands Of The Giants next month.
