Manchester City Council has approved planning permission to Manchester City Football Club for the expansion of The Etihad Stadium…

The feelgood factor momentum remains at what is now known as The Etihad Campus. It has been relentess in its consistency since His Highness Sheikh Mansour came to town almost 6 years ago. The increase in stadium capacity, like all projects connected with the continual transformation of the club, has been carefully prepared for through studies and planning allied to the creation of the £200 million City Football Academy alongside The Etihad. The CFA which will accomodate the training base for all the clubs squads opens later this year.

The Citizens are now clear to increase both ends of The Etihad by 6,250 and add up to 2,000 additional seats around the pitch. This will take capacity up to 62,000 which will be third only in England to The Stretfords Old Trafford and Wembley Stadium.

City’s stadium expansion will create 160 temporary jobs during the building process and around 120 new match day posts after completion.

Meanwhile, local regeneration in East Manchester continues apace beyond the CFA with a sixth-form college and leisure and retail centre already under construction.
