Former USA national team captain and ex- Manchester City midfielder Claudio Reyna has announced his retirement from football.
The 34-year-old left City during the 2007 January transfer window after then manager Stuart Pearce agreed to termiante his contract. The mutual departing of the waves paved the way for Claudio to return to his native country and played out his final 12 months at Major League Soccer outfit Red Bull New York.
Sadly, Reyna was plagued with injury at his time in Manchester making a mere 77 appearances in four years.
After making his official announcement Reyna, who celebrates his 35th birthday on July 20 said…
‘For the past 14 years, the game of soccer has granted me so many opportunities in life. I have been fortunate enough to represent my country at the highest level and play the sport I love in stadiums and places I could have only dreamed of when I was growing up.’

‘While I am sad to be leaving professional soccer, I am also excited about what lies ahead and hope that I can give back to the sport as much as its given to me.’
