Clean Sweep

I and many other reserve regulars will be dancing in the streets tonight as we have seen the back of one of the worst reserve managers this club has had in Ian Miller. His record of helping to bring players on is dreadful. Most of the players that he worked with were the FA Youth Cup finalists of 2006 who had a great youth league record as well; and yet the times that the team needed direction or a change on the field with a couple of substitutes; Miller failed to act.

I do not know a great deal about Steffano but in this day of age of sport science; surely mental fitness should go side by side with physical fitness and this aspect of the mental strength I think he did not deliver as the two maulings at Chelsea and Middlesbrough stand out.

Since being a season ticket holder since 1991; this is the first time that the incoming manager has systematically sweep all of the previous coaching staff out of the club. I for one think that this could be the best action that has happened to the club as then all players know that there is not one person that could be an ally for them if they are not performing. There will be no hiding place for them and so it will be easier for Sparky to see who wants to be at this once great club for the long haul and know who he can rely on.

It will be interesting to see who of his coaching staff he decides to place in charge of the reserves as because who ever it is; they will be working with a very talented bunch of youngsters that will need the right guidance to move them forward and have scouts and managers of lower league clubs banging on Mark’s door to see if they can take these players out on loan.

City will also benefit from two extra premier reserve league games this season as the north division has been expanded to eleven teams giving a decent twenty game season; along with the Manchester senior cup will provide a reasonable amount of games for the youngsters to play.
