Club tipped to return for Man City player, but there’s an obvious problem [Opinion]

Barcelona tried and failed to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City this summer, but Sport say the Catalan giants aren’t giving up and may try again next year.

Despite being told how much to pay for the 28-year-old (£84m) and despite having enough money to spend £140m in one transfer window, Barca opted against making an official move for Silva.

But it appears they’re playing the long game, according to Sport. Barcelona will try again and will have success so long as they match his asking price.

Pep Guardiola said he won’t stand in a player’s way if they want to leave, willingly letting Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus join Chelsea and Arsenal respectively, so Barca know what they need to do. The problem is that they’re playing games.

The Spanish giants won’t be able to unsettle Silva as he’s managed to contribute four goals in six Premier League games this season despite his future hanging in the balance. And last season, the Portuguese international had a hand in 20 goals from 50 games across the board when he was reportedly texting Barcelona officials to broker a move.

Guardiola doesn’t need to worry about Silva delivering on the pitch while he longs for a move elsewhere, so all Barca can do to land their man is pay the price that was stated earlier this summer. The psychological games won’t work when he has three years left on his deal. City still hold all the cards.
