Cook Plays A Straight Bat

He’s been off the public radar for some time and City CEO Garry Cook was cautious in his approach to a BBC Radio 5 Live interview last night…

Almost inevitably he was quizzed over three main subjects that hacks in The Street of Shame are circling and revisiting repeatedly this month:

On Arsenal’s Samir Nasri who has come in for savage criticism from Arsenal supporters off the back of relentless newspaper stories and guarded comments from Arsene Wenger and Roberto Mancini:

‘We always try not to disclose anything.
Obviously he is still an Arsenal player and we need to respect that. Unfortunately I will refrain from giving an update on that.’

On wantaway Carlos Tevez who was spotted shopping with his family in Manchester early yesterday evening rather than attending the rout of Swansea:

‘He is still a Manchester City player and to see him playing alongside Aguero is going to be pretty exciting for all the City fans. I’ve not spoken to anybody about anything that will dispel that notion.’

On his relationship with City manager Roberto Mancini:

‘Roberto will be entering four competitions this year for the first time in many years and I have no doubt he will be trying to win every single one of them. Everyone has got an opinion of what we should try and achieve and what we should try and do.

‘All I do know is that Roberto is a winner and last year he said he’s going to win the title and this year he’ll say the very same thing. We set out two and a half to three years ago that it was about building a successful, sustainable football club for the future…you have got to be playing Champions League football and to be playing alongside the very best teams in Europe.’
