Could Seamus Be The First To Go?

As Roberto Mancini and the club hierarchy discuss future squad plans in Abu Dhabi, City’s Number Two ‘keeper Shay Given talks up a transfer north of the border…

Given, who is taking part in The Carling Nations Cup, had previously voiced his displeasure at the start of last season in losing his number one spot to Joe Hart following a serious shoulder injury. Yet he settled into his substitute role for the remainder of the campaign. However, it seems he is now intent upon leaving The Blues. Glasgow Celtic appear to be top of his wish list.

The widely respected 35 year old Eire international, with 50 City appearances to his name may well know something we don’t as his talk of Celtic this week had something of a foregone conclusion about it after he openly praised Celtic boss Neil Lennon. However, Shay pledged to battle on at City where he has a great rappor with a close knit squad and fanbase if asked to do so.

‘It’s no secret I’m a big Celtic supporter and have been all my life. I don’t know what their goalkeeping situation is.

‘Fraser Forster had a very good season up there and there has been talk of him moving on a permanent basis so we would have to wait and see. But it is a fantastic club with fantastic supporters. Ideally, I would like to be playing but it’s out of my hands. If Manchester City want me, I’ve got another two years left on my contract. I don’t really know what’s going to happen.’

Given is one of a number of high profile players on the books, mostly loan stars, who could well be up the road within a matter of weeks.

Big question marks hover over the futures of Felipe Caicedo, Craig Bellamy, Jerome Boateng, Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz, Vladimir Weiss, Jo, John Guidetti, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Wayne Bridge as Brian Marwood, Garry Cook, Khaldoon Al Mubarak and Roberto Mancini catch up with His Highness Sheikh Mansour in advance of City’s first ever Champions League campaign.
