Craig Bellamy: Money For Old Rope

Craig Bellamy played for a Manchester City XI yesterday at Conference North side Altringham and in doing so he must have broke a world record for someone playing in front of just over 1,200 fans just so he could guarantee his £80,000-a-week salary.

Bellamy has one year left on his City contract and come hell or high water the Welshman, between now and June 2012 is going to dig his heels in and collect every penny he can. And if that means he trains with the City Youth team or on his own then I’m sure he’ll happily oblige.

Mancini wants rid to such an extent the club paid two thirds of his wages last season when they loaned him out to his hometown club, Cardiff City.

Even SPL side Celtic have reportedly shown their interest in a season-long loan but they have had to put their enquiries on hold because they cannot get near his wage demands.

What now for Bellers?

Unless he drops his wage demands I envisage only one thing. He’ll remain at Manchester City and disappear into the shadows.

There is no City reserve team next season and with no hope in hell of him receiving a squad number (don’t for get the 25-man Premier League squad rule) then I’m afraid a talented player like Craig will go to waste.

I used to love Bellamy wearing his City shirt with pride and getting stuck-in to the opposition, and sometimes over enthusiastic fans but the time has come to move on. Swallow your pride Craig and stop earning money for old rope.
