Contrary to what David Anderson has written in the Mirror City haven’t made an approach for Kevin De Bruyne, not yet anyway, let alone offered anything up to £60m for him.

No doubt the midfielder is of interest to Manuel Pellegrini, why wouldn’t he be as he’s a top class international footballer who has been in exceptional form in Germany since his move but in the £40m, up to £60m price bracket? Surely not!

Former Chelsea man De Bruyne continues to be strongly linked to City, and I wouldn’t rule out an arrival from Wolfsburg, but they’ve denied any approach for the Belgium international with sporting director Klaus Allofs, quoted by Sky Sports, telling the German media.

‘Nothing has arrived here. And neither Kevin nor his agent have told me they want to leave.’

Rumours aren’t going away that Pellegrini wants to bring the 24-year-old back to the Premier League, with these reports growing in the last day or so following the Mirror claims we’ll make an ‘opening offer around £40million’ but would be ‘willing to go as high as £60million’ if it secured him.

As I’ve said I’m sure we’re interested in the midfielder but signing him to become a new British transfer record signing? I can’t see it myself and whilst, it quite possible Wolfsburg are playing things down of course, no approach made is some jump from £40m up to £60m isn’t it!

Playing devils advocate here, as good as he is, do we actually need him?

Others apparently of interest, also reported in the Mirror, that we’ll ‘step up interest in’ are central defenders Sergio Ramos and Nicolas Otamendi, well among others….
