Defender In Demand

Quite clearly Micah Richards’ future is away from the Etihad, which still saddens me as he was always a player that really was destined to be a great defender – he still could be, and is still very much top class, but his constant injury issues have always hindered him.

I’ll say it quietly, and touch wood, but it does look like he’s able to maintain his fitness even if he isn’t getting as many minutes as he would like at Fiorentina, where he remains until the end of the season.

He’ll not be joining the Italian outfit permanently thought at the end of the season but the Daily Mail says he could yet remain in Italy.

When Richards’ contract ends he’ll have no shortage of clubs after him though looking to sign the 26-year-old on a free.

Liverpool, West Ham and Everton, at home, along with Inter in Italy and even Dortmund in Germany are ‘showing an interest’ but it is said that ‘a return to England is his priority’ – a move to Inter isn’t being ‘ruled out’ mind, which was a move he almost made in the transfer window to link up with Roberto Mancini again by all accounts?

Liverpool and West Ham have been linked in connection with him long-term, but wherever he ends up as much as you can’t ever guarantee first-team football he’ll want it to be somewhere he’ll have his best chance of that.

I feel sure he would have stayed with us wouldn’t he if he thought he would be given a fair crack of the whip, which injury free perhaps he would have but you can understand why he wouldn’t want to wait to find out….
