Taylor Harwood-Bellis could be on his way out of Manchester City with Burnley closing in on a move. Football Insider say new manger Vincent Kompany wants to poach the centre-back from his former club to boost Burnley’s promotion bid next season. The 20-year-old is keen to renew acquaintances with Kompany and won’t be denied a move as he’s surplus to requirements, so a deal could get over the line very soon.
Harwood Bellis has risen through the youth ranks to the fringes of City’s first-team, making 21 appearances for the U18s, 10 appearances for the U19s, 38 appearances for the U23s and eight appearances at senior level. Regularly first-team football was hard to come by for the England U21 international, however, so he was loaned out in 2021 and 2022.
Harwood-Bellis made 19 appearances for Blackburn Rovers (2021), 19 appearances for RSC Anderlecht (2021/22) and 23 appearances for Stoke City (2021/22). The 20-year-old’s struggles at Anderlecht highlight how the Championship may be his level, so Burnley would be a good move.
James Tarkowski and Ben Mee are both out of contract with the Clarets this summer, so Kompany will need two centre-backs to replace them. Harwood-Bellis isn’t a bad option.
