Reports are beginning to circulate claiming that City scouts are closely monitoring Charleroi defender Mahamadou Kere.

The 24 year old Burkina Faso defender has been playing in the Belgian league for a number of years and has built a reputation as a strong but mobile physical presence in the heart of the defence, although he is versatile enough to do a job in midfield if required.

Kere would be keen for any move that would help to establish himself in the Premiership and is thought to have had a trial with West Brom around the January transfer window, although a deal didn’t materialise.

Naturally, there will be speculation that this interest could signal the departure of Distin, who has made no secret that he is looking for European football, something that will not be coming to Eastlands for some considerable while if City’s recent performances are anything to go by.

I’ll admit I’ve never seen him play and he’s probably the first of many potential replacements that will be speculated on over the next few months.

I have to say that this has shades of Wigan taking a chance on Chimbonda. Now that’s worked out for them and he’s been a revelation this season, but knowing City’s luck and track record with risky signings I’m not too sure about this one – I seem to remember Negouai was signed from the same club and the rest is history.

I think Dunny deserves a quality partner if Distin leaves, but not sure who. Who would you like to see City sign?
