Defender who picked up head injury closes in on Man City exit

Luke Mbete could be on his way out of Manchester City this summer with Alex Brotherton of the Manchester Evening News revealing a season-long loan move with Huddersfield Town is pending.

The 18-year-old has made just three first-team appearances for City but featured in their recent friendly with Barcelona before being stretchered off due to a head injury.

Mbete’s head collision shouldn’t half his potential move to Huddersfield, however, so a move should go through before the summer transfer window closes.

The centre-back, who has represented England at U15, U16 and U19 level, has made 18 appearances for City’s U18s, six appearances for the U19s and 37 appearances for the U21s. But with John Stones, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake for competition, Mbete has little chance of getting playing time under Guardiola.

So it’s the right decision to loan him out to a club willing to give him minutes and Huddersfield appear to be procuring his signature. The Terriers finished third in the Championship last season but missed out on promotion via the playoffs.

They’re currently 22nd in the table after four games without a clean sheet, however, so Mbete could be in for a trying campaign.
