It could have been easy to say Fabian Delph was ‘left out in the cold’ but I wouldn’t want a title like that as many people expect, if not want, that to be the case following his arrival from Aston Villa! So I just went with ‘Delph left behind’, which is what we’ve done as we move onto our next leg of pre-season.

Delph’s debut, after his £8m arrival from Villa, against Madrid ended inside 20-minutes last Tuesday with the England man picking up a hamstring injury. As of Sunday we still didn’t know the severity of this setback and just how long we’ll be likely to see the midfielder sit out.

What we did find out, with Manuel Pellegrini confirming as much on the official website, was the fact Delph has been left in Australia – ordinarily a good thing as it’s a great country to spend time in, although not so much when your teammates have moved on, your injured and it’s winter, as it is in Oz at the moment!

Pellegrini didn’t want to risk any further complications and following advice from the club Doctor he shouldn’t fly he hasn’t, whilst the rest of the squad set off for Hanoi for the friendly with a Vietnamese select XI today he’ll have to watch on by his lonesome….

Regarding the game, with him also admitting he didn’t know much about the opposition, Pellegrini did say we’ll be fielding a strong team with £49m signing Raheem Sterling a starter along with Joe Hart and ‘the other important players in our team.’
