The official Man City website is reporting that Sylvain Distin has decided to stay at Eastlands and see out the remaining year of his contract.

With today’s news headlines being dominated by the disgrace that Ben Thatcher brought to the club with the shocking challenge last night that saw Pompey’s Pedro Mendez hospitalised, it’s nice to have some good news to report.

News of Distin’s decision will be a great boost for the club as that removes the uncertainty that has been hanging over the team since last season.

It’s not impossible that Distin could indeed stay on beyond 2007 and sign an extension to his contract. Whether he does or not will probably depend on City’s performance this year, but I guess it will also be heavily influenced financial drivers.

Let’s park that one for now and hope Distin will continue to turn in strong performances week-in, week-out as he has done for the past three seasons.
