City Captain Richard Dunne has spoken out over the ‘Street Of Shame*’ Get City campaign and all it’s followers which is seeing the club and fan’s close ranks…

In an interview with the MUEN, the suspended skipper has underlined the growing siege mentality building around Eastlands ahead of Newcastle’s visit:

‘We need a spirit to get things moving and, the more people pick on us, the more you want to come out fighting.

‘I think we have a squad full of good characters and people who can fight and we are now battling for our own pride and that of the club.

‘If we start getting success, we know people will hate us because of the ‘richest club in the world’ tag.

‘Even now, when there is only a chance we will get success, people are starting to turn against us and, though it is not nice and you naturally want everyone to support you, it is a sign that we are going in the right direction.

‘We have to make sure that we do not give anyone an excuse to have an easy pop at us. Every time we lose a game, people tell us how bad we are and write us off and, when we win games, there are not major plaudits for us.

‘With the money the club has available at the moment, I think people think it is their right to have a go at us and it is up to us to make sure that we do not give them reasons to do so.’

Dunney is absolutely spot on. Here’s to City dishing out a fierce reaction at SportCity on Wednesday night…
