Have you noticed that after weeks and weeks of speculation, news item after news item, suddenly yesterday when transfer windows opened there was nothing about Edin Dzeko other than a statement that he had gone to Wolfsburg’s closedown training camp in Spain?
With 47,000 packed into Eastlands yesterday, many hoping that there might be a New Year’s present in the form of Dzeko, it looks as though there is a stumbling block.
Newspapers today tell us that City didn’t offer him enough money. He wanted £170k per week, we offered ‘only’ £120k. And this is the player identified as he who could help bring the title to Eastlands, share the goal burden with Tevez and Balotelli! We are arguing over £50k per week when we are paying poorer footballers ridiculous money.
It is refreshing today to see Khaldoon get involved. A very astute businessman at the best of times, he clearly does not intend to see this deal derailed. Surely £50k per week in City terms could almost be described as penny-pinching!
Stories also abound about Arnesen coming from Chelsea to act as Director of Football. Although it is expected that this will not affect the current incumbents as Arnesen operates in a different area, if the Dzeko transfer falls through this could see the P45 come out for someone!
Let’s get real. An additional £50k per week pales into insignificance if City were to win the title and secure Champions League football next season. Get this guy in and get him into the team. A soft introduction against the Foxes, then up and at the Wolves.
