Transfer boost as 6ft 1in man admits “Man City is my favourite club” and “dreams” of playing in the PL

Manchester City have been linked with a move for Edson Alvarez and may have to battle Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers for his signature, but the 23-year-old’s latest comments suggest we would lead the race if we made an official bid.

Alvarez has been complimentary of City in the past, saying he wanted to play for us in the future, and Sport Witness report that he’s doubled down on those comments in a recent interview with Voetbal Zone. The Mexican international is currently at Ajax, but he dreams of playing in the Premier League and says we’re his favourite club.

Alvarez told Voetbal Zone: “I would love to achieve that (win the Dutch Eredivisie) one day. And after that, it is a dream of mine to play in the Premier League one day. Manchester City is my favourite club, so that would be perfect.”

The 23-year-old joined Ajax from CF America (113 appearances, 5 goals, 1 assist) in 2019 and has gone on to make 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals. He’s been a regular this season, featuring in seven of Ajax’s 10 games across the board, and has four years remaining on his deal.

It remains to be seen whether we’ll make a move for Alvarez as we’re not short of options in midfield – Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Rodrigo, Fernandinho – but it’s also up in the air whether the 6ft 1in man is high on our wishlist.

Time will tell.
