Spanish media claim Man City ‘crisis’ is down to one person who created a ‘bad environment’

|

Manchester City are five points adrift of Arsenal in the Premier League title race, were unceremoniously knocked out of the EFL Cup in the quarter-final and don’t appear to have a squad capable of challenging for the Champions League, so Dani Serrano of El Nacional claims Pep Guardiola has a ‘crisis’ on his hands.

Serrano blames the City manager for their problems this season, suggesting a ‘bad environment’ has caused many talented players to leave – Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, Raheem Sterling to Chelsea and Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal last summer. Joao Cancelo’s surprise move to Bayern Munich was deemed by Serrano as another example of a player trying to get away from Pep.

City lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon, giving Arsenal the chance to go eight points clear in the league with 17 games remaining. City had a chance to narrow the gap to two points but now have a massive task on their hands to catch Mikel Arteta’s men.

Guardiola has lost so many key players in the last two transfer window and hasn’t managed to replace them all with like-for-like ability. To be left with Kyle Walker, Rico Lewis and Sergio Gomez at full-back isn’t good enough for a side that want to challenge on all fronts.

Bernardo Silva hasn’t scored in the league since August and hasn’t made an assist since October. Phil Foden hasn’t scored since November and hasn’t made an assist since October. Ilkay Gundogan hasn’t scored since August and hasn’t managed an assist since November. And Julian Alvarez fired blanks on Sunday for the 10th time in his last 12 league outings, so City aren’t in good shape.
