Manchester City suffered a major blow to their title hopes with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon, but Pep Guardiola will also be worried about the performance of Erling Haaland.
The 22-year-old failed to score at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (0), failed to take a shot over the 90 minutes (0) and made the fewest amount of passes (16) for a player who started the game.
Haaland’s teammates couldn’t find him in goalscoring areas and Jamie Carragher even questioned whether he had regrets over joining City. The Norwegian international has been prolific this season but doesn’t see a lot of the ball, so his overall performances aren’t always great.
The 22-year-old is 1st in the City squad for league goals scored (25), joint 4th for assists (3), 22nd for pass completion (76.3%), 18th for passes made (13.9 per game), 8th for chances created (0.9 per game), 2nd for most unsupported touches (1.3 per game) and hasn’t whipped in a cross, so he’s less involved in the build-up and is usually finishing off the chances.
Haaland hits the target with 54% of his shots (40) and 62.5% of those accurate efforts usually end up as a goal. The Norwegian international is also outperforming his expected goals by 8.1, so City have been over-reliant on magic from the striker rather than his football abilities.
