It’s being reported that youngster George Evans is on the verge of completing a free transfer move to Reading this week.

The 21 year old had been out on loan with League One side Walsall, but that spell was cancelled and he returned to the Etihad Stadium, but now he seems having rejected an opportunity at Brentford, he will complete a permanent move to the Madejski Stadium instead.

Having come to prominence with a spectacular 35 yard strike during the first team friendly against Toronto FC last summer, he made his City debut this year as a late substitute in the Capital One Cup game against Sunderland in September and it was hoped in the future big things would come from him.

His debut also saw him become only the second person to represent City at all levels from under 8 through to the first team.

Moving to Walsall in October, he scored four times in 16 games for the promotion chasers, building on his experience in previous years at Crewe and Scunthorpe but now it appears it’s time for him to move on.

Whilst a free transfer, it is said City hold performance related clauses on him in any event and will secure bonus payments based on performance related issues and appearances in his future with them.

The free element to the deal is presumably just a sweetener to really help him develop at this stage in his career.
