Every Weekend’s a Big One Now

The weekend approaches once again. And once again the pressure is on City to keep their winning streak moving on as they entertain Bolton Wanderers at an unexpected 1500hrs tomorrow.

The Blues won the corresponding away fixture quite easily despite Kevin Davies attempts to rattle the Blues with his usual efforts at what can only be loosely described as football.

I am not expecting any surprises tomorrow, provided we keep eleven men on the field and get into goalscoring mode quickly.

And it will be necessary, as Stretford’s finest continue to make life at the top difficult by continually adding late goals to turn losses into draws a la Chelsea and draws into wins a la Norwich.

The one way that City can guarantee themselves to win the Premier League is simple…keep winning.

Stretford heads to Harry Redknapp’s emporium and we can’t help but feel that this will be their last opportunity to drop points until they come to the Etihad. But we all know also that Spurs do have a lily-white flag that they love to wave when they play united. Indeed, they waved it royal style against the Gooners last week and maybe they will against Dad’s Army on Sunday. It will be the acid test for any club aspirations that Redknapp has left. Defeat could see Harry heading to FA headquarters in preparation for the Euros. A win might have him thinking of Spurs getting ahead of united at some point before the end of May.

City still sit proudly at the top of the tree, but I am still nervous that if on one Monday morning they are second, then they may stay there. I am confident we will beat Chelsea and Stretford at home. Arsenal away is the tricky one. Will they play like they did against Spurs, or will they be off-colour as, Van Persie excepted, they have been for much of the season?

But it could still come down to that Monday night match at the end of April…
