FA CUP FINAL- Doesn’t That Look Great?

I would like to moan and reminisce but I cannot bring myself to do it, life is beautiful isn’t it?

We are in the Champions League and the FA Cup final but doesn`t it seem fcuking typical that for our first cup final appearance in 30 years, the Premier League has scheduled league games before the game? Meaning that our delightful neighbours will have, in all probability secured the league.

Typical, anyway even if they have, nothing and I mean nothing save a nuclear strike will distract us Blues from having the time of our lives.

I read an article online somewhere where they (Scum) are considering leaving their infamous banner up if we win because we haven’t won anything, we’ve bought it (cough, splutter) or change the numbers to 43, for the years since we won the league- hope they do! It’s provided great motivation amongst Roberto and the squad and will show them truly as we see them.

For the past 30 years I have, on Cup Final day, wished that I supported one of the teams, to see them milling about the hotel, getting on the coach, arriving at Wembley, taking a walk around the pitch, the interviewing of famous fans before the game while they try desperately to hammer home their credentials as a long term fan.

More importantly, having the excitement of your team competing in a one off match for a cup that is known and viewed throughout the world.
But no more, for Saturday it will be us! And I for one couldn’t be more excited than if promised a guilt free roll in whipped cream with a naked Keeley Hazell and Scarlett Johansson.

But be assured, given the choice between the above or a City win, I’d go for the cup every time (and not the D cup).

The FA Cup has taken a battering in recent years (The FA & Premier League do not help) because Champions League money means that for the most part, the reserve teams of the Scum, Chelsea (until this year) and Arsenal are capable of beating at least half the Premier League and because it’s not worth as much to them as the Champions League it is lower down on the priority list.

But tell that to any City or Stoke fan (heaven forbid) this Saturday night and you will be laughed at.

We were in the gutter in 1998 but we were always looking at the stars, well the Sheik helped build a rocket boys, the stars are where we start from now on.

In my everyday life I am not superstitious at all, black cats, walking under ladders hold no fears for me (much to my girlfriends chagrin!) but football, while that’s a different matter, this Saturday, I shall be wearing my blood splattered 09/10 top, blood splattered jeans that I wore for the Semi final ( yes the blood is my own, yes it was by filthy reds and yes it was worth it in the end!), Beatles- All you need is love socks, clean shaven(on the morning of the game), City watch ( 04-05 season) and Rosary beads in my pocket( I`m not Catholic).

I also thought we’d win a cup in 2011 because- in 1974, Warrington won the challenge cup, in 2009 Warrington won the Challenge Cup, in 1975 Fulham surprisingly competed in and lost a cup final, in 2010 Fulham surprisingly competed in and lost a Cup final, in 1976 Manchester won a Cup, in 2011…( please please please let me get what I want this time).

Just as an aside: I have compiled 4 cds of Wembley Tunes for the lads in the car to listen too. I’m really pleased with my eclectic mix of City related songs, songs to inspire, songs to make you mellow, songs to make you bellow and songs to get the blood a pumpin’.

Oasis- Cum on feel the noise, Elbow- One day like this, Soundgarden -Heretic, Nirvana- You know you`re right, Elvis Costello- Good year for the roses, Jay- Z- 99 Problems, Guillemots- Trains to Brazil, Joy Division- Love will tear us apart, Kasabian- Club Foot, Fatboy Slim- Right here right now, BRMC- Spread your love are a sample of the tunes on offer.

Finally Best Wishes to my mate, Ant Johnson and his wife Cheryl on the late arrival of Sophie, Ant being the devoted husband he is has forgone his ticket for Saturday’s game to be with his newly extended family.

Please feel free to comment on your own superstitions and fave tunes.
