Fabrizio Romano explains why Man City signing £93.75m man is ‘difficult’

Manchester City have Romelu Lukaku on a list of potential replacements for Sergio Aguero should he depart at the end of his contract this summer, but Fabrizio Romano wrote for CBS Sports that the 27-year-old would be a ‘difficult’ acquisition.

Lukaku joined Inter Milan from Manchester United in 2019 and has gone on to make 80 appearances in all competitions, scoring 56 goals with 10 assists. The Belgian international, who boasts 57 goals in 89 games for his country, has 22 goals to his name for Inter this season, so it’s easy to see why City are keen.

Romano doesn’t believe a deal is possible, however, likely because Inter have tied the striker down until 2024 and have no desire to part with such a valuable asset. The Nerazzuri have slapped a £93.75m price tag on his head too, so Lukaku might be out of City’s range.

There’s also the question of whether he wants to return to the Premier League after eight years in England – Chelsea (2011 – 2014), Everton (2014 – 2017) Man Utd (2017 – 2019) – so City may be better off turning their attentions elsewhere.

Lukaku could win the Serie A title with Inter this season, as the Nerazzurri sit top of the table after 22 games, so he might be happy to stay.
