Face It, Rags. Ferguson Has Stayed On Too Long

Sir Alex Ferguson, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville have spent a lot of time talking Manchester City these past two years. Time to turn the tables…

The ageing rags old school increasingly have the look of a spent force with Edwin Wanders Far, Tiny Tim Owen and Count-out Hargreaves (The English Patient) following the trend.

Long gone are the days where completely unchallenged, united spent £13 million on new players in the summer of 1989 and broke transfer records repeatedly after that. Now that has got to hurt, and tonight’s reference by the Manchester united Supporters Trust to City being a ‘small club’ in the time honoured smugfest traditions of webzines United We Stand And Red Issue has more than a hint of tragedy about it.

Already faced with their worst nightmare in a resurgent Manchester City that just won’t go away, the frustrated rags have been wobbling, but today’s public confession from Taggart that their third talisman in a row is ready to leave the stratospherically debt ridden club leaves them in hopeless disarray with media vultures now engulfing their whole misfiring shooting match.

Hacks agreed today that Ferguson looked crestfallen as he revealed the story of how an obviously unfit for duty Wayne Rooney is holding out for more money. 69 years old this year, surely the man who brought unrivalled success to Stretford must have seen the iceberg coming when Our Malcolm and his lads dodgily took over the club in a gargantuan mistake that led to a Delia Smith Norwich scarf revival.

Ferguson could have done one on a high but memories of the previously brilliant Nottingham Forest on-field implosion under a tragically stayed on too long Brian Clough now spring to mind.

For so long they prized Wayne Rooney as a shining light. Rushed back too early from injury repeatedly and asked to carry their side the rags told us he was a cut above and beyond the ‘mercenaries’ they’d previously said would never join liddle ciddy the way 36 goal Carlos Tevez did.

Now Rooney’s position is surely untenable having announced he won’t sign his contract and wants to leave the club.

A no win situation for any pontificating rag. Either he wants more money and with his agent is trying to engineer it, or wants a new challenge that cannot be afforded at Old Trafford anymore. Take your pick.

The winter and heavy pitches are fast approaching and without the benefit of the etsablished quality youth thriving throughout the Manchester City side in all departments, Ferguson’s non-reinforced squad looks suddenly to have a very real vulnerability about it.

On today’s evidence, one wonders whether Taggart has the motivation, or the inclination to handle the likes of modern day ‘mercenaries’ like united’s favourite scouser anymore. His ‘we’ll leave the door open’ sounded as desperate as his team selection for the League Cup derbies earlier this year.

The 10th of November at Eastlands can’t come around quick enough.

Latest Team News:

The resurgent Kolo Toure is out of the Europa League clash againt Poznan and the massive clash against Arsenal, both at Eastlands, due to a hamstring pull.

However, Kolo’s imposing brother YaYa who has suffered a knee knock is set to be fit to face the out of form Poles on Thursday night.

There is an outside chance that Mario Balotelli might make the substitutes bench against Arsenal. Super Mario is back in training and looking sharp.
