‘Not good enough’ – Some fans say ‘old and injury prone’ transfer target ‘will be a big flop’ at Man City

Sergio Aguero is out of contract at Manchester City this summer and could be replaced by one of Patson Daka, Harry Kane, Darwin Nunez, Edin Dzeko, Romelu Lukaku, Ali Akman, Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez and Arek Milik.

But with Sky Sports confirming that Danny Ings is also genuine transfer target due to his affordability, fans have taken to social media to give their thoughts. It doesn’t appear many consider him to be a good replacement for Aguero.

Where will Manchester City finish this season?

Ings joined Southampton in 2019 and has gone on to make 92 appearances in all competitions, scoring 42 goals and supplying nine assists (Transfermarkt). His future at St Mary’s is up in the air too, as there’s little over one year remaining on his contract.

Should Ings be seduced by the interest from City, Southampton might have to cash in early rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2022. That’s why Ings could be an affordable target, but whether the Sky Blues prefer him over Daka, Kane, Nunez, Dzeko, Lukaku, Akman, Haaland, Martinez and Milik remains to be seen.

Ings turns 29 in July, so the next deal he signs might be his last at the top level. He’s worked hard to get his career back on track after an injury-laden stint at Liverpool, but will City make a move?
