Manchester City have confirmed Fernandinho will be out of action for up to six weeks with a leg injury. The 35-year-old was introduced from the bench in the 85th minute of our Champions League win over FC Porto but limped off before the end of the match.

Pep Guardiola believes Fernandinho could be sidelined for the rest of October and all of November, saying: “It is bad news. It is a problem in his leg. I think he will be out for four to six weeks. It is a big blow for us, with the amount of games.”

The 5ft 9in midfielder has been a regular this season, featuring in six of our seven games in all competitions, so he’ll be missed. Guardiola has Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden at his disposal, however, so we’re not short on options in his stead.

Games Fernandinho could miss

  • 24/10/20 (Premier League) West Ham United
  • 27/10/20 (Champions League) Olympique Lyonnais
  • 31/10/20 (Premier League) Sheffield United
  • 3/11/20 (Champions League) Olympiacos
  • 7/11/20 (Premier League) Liverpool
  • 21/11/20 (Premier League) Tottenham Hotspur
  • 25/11/20 (Champions League) Olympiacos
  • 28/11/20 (Premier League) Burnley

Fernandinho has been a brilliant servant for us since joining from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013, making 320 appearances across the board while scoring 23 goals with 26 assists. The Brazilian international is still a key player despite his advancing age, so here’s hoping he’s not out for long.
