Financial Strength Should Simplify Tevez Decision

If the past season at Manchester City has shown us anything, it’s that player tantrums and arguments needn’t get in the way of a good season.

While the rumours of Tevez wanting a move away have persisted, they have yet to cause noticeable problems in the squad or for the club to underachieve. Why not then best to keep hold of a player commonly regarded as one of the top 10 strikers in world football at present?

True, the Argentine forward has developed a reputation, partly deserved, for not committing his long term future to his current teams and often needing to be the centre of attention.

However, while the latter is probably true, the former is harsher considering that the primary factor for Corinthians, West Ham and Manchester United deciding not to proceed with Tevez was financial pressure, rather than them being forced to sell him because he’d shown poor attitude or effort on the pitch, even when he was wanting to leave.

For the first time Tevez now finds himself at a club with the financial might not to need to sell and it will be interesting to see how he copes within this new scenario.

I suspect that if he does remain at Manchester City, as the case could well be considering Inter Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid aren’t exactly chomping at the bit to sign him presently; we wouldn’t see a level of performance level and effort from Carlos Tevez all that dissimilar from that which he’s already produced over the previous two excellent seasons.

For that reason alone he has to be worth keeping hold of, even if it means the odd unsettling transfer rumour or argument flying about in the newspaper press.
