Well, well, well, what can I say? Not only were the weekend tabloids full of transfer speculation involving City they were also saying that Manuel Pellegrini WILL now remain as City manager next season! In fact that had been claimed the weekend before.

Pellegrini has come under increasing pressure this season, reports had been saying that our manager would be sacked at the end of the season with a ‘shortlist’ recently drawn up to replace him. Not only is this shortlist being ripped up he’ll be given a ‘£200m war chest’ to complete an overhaul on the City squad!

That will see him bring in some high profile names according to the Daily Star, which of course must make it true if they say so….

Apparent transfer target Paul Pogba will be going to Real Madrid so that will set in motion a return to the Premier League of former Spurs midfielder Luka Modric who will link up with Arsenal Jack Wilshere as ‘sporting director Txiki Begiristain reckons classy Modric would form an ideal partnership with the England ace.’ A fly in the ointment though, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s also a fan of the Croat and could look at signing him!

Oh no, we’ll not be stopping at Modric and Wilshere though….

Wolfsburg’s former Chelsea forward Kevin de Bruyne is coming in for £30m, Everton’s Ross Barkley, depending on what reports you read, will come in for anything from £25m-£50m! We’ll also look to Spain again at Atletico Madrid’s Koke for a ‘cool’ £45 and last but by no means least it’ll be another left back, do we really need one, with Monaco’s Layvin Kurzawa snapped up for £15m.

No, not enough, ok lets also throw in Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling for £50m with us ‘monitoring developments on contract talks.’

Clearly FFP rulings don’t apply in the fantasy world of the Daily Star do they!

But wait, they have taken that into account as Stevan Jovetic, Edin Dzeko and Aleksandar Kolarov ‘are set to leave in the summer’ while Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri ‘may be on their way out too,’ they’ll all generate enough money, and save enough wages, to justify these summer moves – not forgetting that James Milner is out of contract and will also go…. He’s off to Liverpool (Click Here).

I have little, to no doubt, that the squad will undergo something of a transformation, maybe even an overhaul as it does need freshening up with the average age of it brought down. I think if nothing else this season has shown that perhaps this squad, which peaked together, is in some cases moving past it’s best so does need some tweaking.

To the tune of some £200m though and with Pellegrini doing this? Well, of that I am much less convinced that it will (a) be Pellegrini that will be manager next season and (b) that we’ll be financially able to spend anything like that amount due to FFP….
