Football statistic has everyone talking about Guardiola’s legacy in the Premier League

|

Visual Game posted a picture on Twitter showing players with the highest Premier League points-per-game ratio in history and many recognised that Pep Guardiola has managed a lot of the names on the list.

There were 24 players in the graphic and the condition was that they’d need to have played 50 games or more to make the cut. And when looking at the top-10 names, there’s a connection with most of them playing under Guardiola.

Arjen Robben tops the list with a 2.58 points per game ratio from his time at Chelsea (2004 – 2007), but even he played under Guardiola when the pair were at Bayern Munich (2009-2019) (2013-2016 under Pep).

Aymeric Laporte (2.53) is an existing Manchester City player who regularly features, Oleksandr Zinchenko (2.49) only just left the Sky Blues to join Arsenal over the summer, Phil Foden (2.45) is an existing City player who regularly features, Gabriel Jesus (2.42) was a regular for City before joining Arsenal months ago, Leroy Sane (2.4) was a regular for City before joining Bayern Munich in 2021, Ederson (2.3) is an existing City player with a regular starting place and so is Ilkay Gundogan (2.37).

So from the top-10 list of names, eight of the players have been managed by Guardiola in their career, seven of them built up their points-per-game record under Pep at City and four of them still play at the Etihad Stadium now. It’s quite the legacy he is leaving in England despite only six years in Manchester.
