Arguably the best summer signing Manchester City made in 2016 and at last, the Brazilian wonder-kid has finally touched down in the North-West.

Signed from Palmeiras in the summer for a reported £27m the 19-year-old arrived in Manchester yesterday (Thursday 1 December 2016) after both clubs agreed that Gabriel could remain in Brazil and see out their domestic league. And with Palmeiras playing their final game of the campaign against Vitoria on 11 December it is thought his flying Manchester stop-over was arranged so he could meet his new teammates and find a place to live prior to his predicted City debut, which could be as early as 2 January at the Etihad Stadium against Burnley.

It is thought the club battled the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid to get Jesus to sign on the dotted line. In addition the media reported, when the deal was originally announced was that Pep Guardiola persuaded the Brazilian international to come to Manchester with a short and brief conversation. I mean who could resist Pep’s charm?

Jesus was voted the best newcomer of the 2015 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, a year in which he also helped his team win the Copa do Brasil.

At international level, he was a starter in both the Brazilian team that came runners-up at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the Gold Medal winners at the 2016 Olympics.

Did you know?

His full name is Gabriel Fernando de Jesus.

Date of birth – 3 April 1997.

Born in São Paulo, Jesus grew up in the neighborhood of Jardim Peri.

After initially playing street football, he joined amateur clubs in the region, his last one being Associação Atlética Anhanguera.

His one and only professional club prior to coming to City is Palmeiras.

Imagine Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus leading the City line?

Gabriel is fully expected to be at the Etihad when City take on league leaders Chelsea on Saturday.

Welcome to Manchester City Gabriel.
