Countdown to 2010 #15

Much consternation in the ruling echelons of SAFA here as the African Cup of Nations produces some exciting results, without the presence of South Africa.

It appears that sales of tickets for Bafana’s games in the opening group matches are not going well at all and if current results are anything to go by, both England and the US will have larger support than the home side. Great pity that England are not scheduled to play in Durban where we could probably fill the stadium.

The big price rip off continues. Local airlines are reported to be trebling their inland flight costs for the duration of the tournament, and the prices for an average hotel are set to rise from around R850 per night to R2800 per night. The same will apply to Bed & Breakfast accommodation, who will rip off the market for what they can get, with one upmarket home in Capetown has been let out for R1.4 million for four weeks. Cheapest tickets for the games are around R800 per person.
