When the Inter Milan and Manchester City hierarchies sit down for a pint and a fry up in Dublin this weekend, talk might yet go beyond admiring each others trophies…
The futures of two 27 year old footballers is coming under increasing speculation and it just so happens that they play for the Coppa Italia and English FA Cup Winners respectively.
Groan-athon saga specialist City’s Carlos Tevez wants out of Manchester while his agent taps at his watch in preference for the latest move in his clients nomadic career.
Meanwhile, despite his relatively settled public statements, Internazionale’s Wesley Sneijder must surely be steadying himself at the prospect of a transfer out of Italy now that his club’s Chief Executive Ernesto Paolillo has stated:
‘Is Wesley definitely not for sale? I don’t think there’s anything that can’t be sold, it all depends on the price…’
With preparations for the big league kick offs across Europe gathering pace, elite clubs with one eye on upcoming financial regulations are engaging in numerous shady games of cat and mouse. But in this case, Inter’s meeting with City at the Dublin Super Cup lends an opportunity for both clubs to seal an exchange deal that would satisfy all parties.
Sneijder never shirks a challenge and his experience and capabilities need no introduction. This correspondent would rather see a stable Dutchman at City than making the riskier signing of Arsenal’s Samir Nasri.
Sneijder’s inclusion into an increasingly stellar City side following the capture of the brilliant Sergio Aguero would ensure that The Blues go into new territory this season boasting fearsome weaponry.
Furthermore, with the Tevez wantaway albatross finally ditched to become somebody else’s unpredictable problem, the team focus that Roberto Mancini has drilled into his squad would be further enhanced.
So ask the question City. Get Sneijder.
