Goalkeeper linked with Man City exit

James Trafford is currently on loan at Bolton Wanderers until the end of the season, but his future at the University of Bolton Stadium might be up in the air if reports are to be believed.

Simon Jones and Sam Brookes of the Daily Mail says the 20-year-old has interest from Rangers who are considering signing him when the January transfer opens.

Trafford joined Bolton in January and has gone on to make 46 appearances in all competitions, conceding 41 goals with 18 clean sheets. It appears his form for the Trotters hasn’t gone unnoticed either with Rangers looking keen.

Jones and Brookes noted that the Gers already have Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin to choose from between the sticks but may be planning for the future with Trafford.

The England youth international has made 10 appearances for Man City’s U18s and 13 appearances for their U21s, but he’s yet to feature at senior level. Instead, Trafford was loaned out to Accrington Stanley (2021 – 2022) and then Bolton (2022 – present) for regular first-team football.

Trafford has five years remaining on his deal at Man City, so the Sky Blues aren’t obligated to cash in if Rangers made a move.
