Report: Club ‘doing everything’ to sign Man City player, Guardiola has decision to make

Yangel Herrera has impressed while on loan at Granada, so much so that AS (h/t Sport Witness) believe the Spanish outfit are ‘doing everything’ in their power to keep him for another season.

Pep Guardiola has a difficult decision to make, however, as the 23-year-old could be a replacement for Fernandinho should the Brazilian leave when his contract expires in the coming months.

Herrera joined City from Atletico Venezuela in 2017 and has yet to make an appearance for the Sky Blues. He was loaned out to New York City days after his arrival and made 38 appearances before a short-term stint at SD Huesca that saw him make 16 appearances in 2018/19.

The Venezuelan international then joined Granada on a two-year loan in the summer of 2019 and has made 77 appearances across the board. He’s shown the attributes of a good defensive midfielder and has impressed Guardiola, but his future is still uncertain.

City are considering bringing Herrera back, but Granada are pushing to sign him for the 2021/22 season, so things are up in the air. The Sky Blues have been linked with Denis Zakaria, Ismael Bennacer, Manuel Locatelli, Adrien Rabiot and Douglas Luiz as replacements for Fernandinho, so they have alternatives to Herrera.
