Manchester City face Chelsea today away at Stamford Bridge in a massive Premier League clash that could see the Blues reduce the gap to leaders Arsenal to 5 points, after Mikel Arteta’s side drew 0-0 with high-flying Newcastle on Tuesday night.

Speaking ahead of the Chelsea game, manager Pep Guardiola has had some glowing praise for breakout star Rico Lewis who has impressed recently in recent games with his performances and particularly his ability to invert into midfield and become an auxiliary midfielder.

“What he has done in the last three games has exceeded my expectations. He is so smart as a player. We are delighted, the academy has produced another great quality player.” Guardiola told the media ahead of the pivotal clash.

Lewis has started 5 games this season for the Cityzens, scoring his first goal for the club in the 3-1 win against Sevilla inCity’s final Champions League group stage game. The rise of the Bury born 18-year-old this season has left club officials itching to get the teenager tied up to a new deal and secure his long term future with the Blues. According to Jack Gaughan via the Daily Mail, Lewis will be offered a new contract in the coming months and will be expected to earn a significant payrise from his current £5,000 a week contract.

With tonights fixture a must win, will Guardiola reward Lewis with his third consecutive Premier League start?
