Guardiola has decision to make on Man City player after ‘fulfil my dream’ claim [Opinion]

Bernardo Silva gave a recent interview to Record (h/t Sport Witness) playing down any chance of him leaving in January, but he did reveal interest to end his career away from Manchester City.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move for Barcelona and wasn’t shy about admitting his desire to make the Camp Nou switch in the past, but a move fell through after the Catalans failed to meet his asking price.

Silva continues to talk about his plans for the future, however, admitting he’s likely to exit City for Benfica when his contract is up in 2025. He said: “I have two more years on my Manchester City contract. I won’t hide that my goal in recent years, if something good happens elsewhere, will probably be to move to a new project.”

“I’m not going to lie: it’s something I think about. I think about it every year. It has always been a goal. I couldn’t fulfil my dream of playing for Benfica when I was 19, 20 years old, but I still want to fulfil it.”

Silva has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals with five assists. The 28-year-old is 2nd in the City squad for assists, 3rd for dribbles (1.1 per game), joint-fourth for chances created (1.4 per game) and 3rd for tackles (1.6 per game), so he’s a very important player.

Silva is contracted until 2025 and has a valuation of £80m approximately, so it’s hard to see what club will sign him. City might end up losing the playmaker on a free transfer in two years, as they won’t want to cash in for less given how useful he is.
